Sometimes, the Missing Piece Is What You Haven’t Tested For

Have you been struggling with digestive problems, food sensitivities, allergies, fatigue, or other symptoms that just don’t seem to resolve?

Recently, I have seen more clients who have been doing everything they can to get well—but continued to experience stomach discomfort, digestive disturbances, food reactions, fatigue, and other unexplained symptoms.

In some cases, parasites were an important piece of the puzzle.

Parasites are organisms that live in or on another organism and obtain nutrients from their host. When parasites are present in the digestive tract, they can interfere with normal digestion and nutrient absorption and may irritate the intestinal lining. Some infections can also trigger inflammation and immune responses throughout the body.

What Can Parasites Do to the Body?

Depending on the type of parasite and the individual, a parasitic infection may contribute to:

  • Abdominal pain, bloating, gas, or cramping
  • Diarrhea, constipation, or changes in bowel habits
  • Poor digestion and nutrient absorption
  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Unexplained weight changes
  • Nausea or changes in appetite
  • Skin symptoms or allergic-type reactions
  • Inflammation and immune-system activation
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Anemia in certain infections
  • Problems involving the liver or other organs with particular types of parasites

Some parasites can remain in the body for a long time without causing obvious symptoms. This is one reason they can sometimes be overlooked.

Why Is It Important to Identify and Clear a Parasite Infection?

Your digestive system plays an important role in nutrition, immunity, and overall health.

If a parasite is present, identifying the specific infection and treating it appropriately can help prevent complications and allow the body to recover from the effects of the infection.
Importantly, not every parasite requires the same treatment. The type of organism matters, which is why testing and appropriate medical guidance are important rather than simply assuming that symptoms are caused by parasites.

Parasites and Serious Disease

Certain parasitic infections can cause significant disease when they are untreated. Depending on the organism, complications may involve the intestines, liver, lungs, nervous system, or other organs.

There is also an important connection between certain parasites and cancer. For example, chronic infection with Schistosoma haematobium is associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer, while chronic infection with certain liver flukes is associated with increased risk of cholangiocarcinoma, a cancer of the bile ducts.

This does not mean that parasites cause cancer in general. Rather, certain long-term parasitic infections have been scientifically linked to specific cancers and other serious complications.
That is one more reason why persistent or unexplained symptoms deserve proper evaluation.

Would You Like to Find Out?

If you have been experiencing ongoing digestive problems, unexplained food reactions, allergies, fatigue, or other symptoms—or if you have had possible exposure through travel, food, water, animals, or other sources—you may want to consider whether parasite testing is appropriate for you.

Don’t guess. Test.
